Yeesh

I had a lot of these moments in class tonight.

I have one of these in my office.
So, when I got back to my office after class, I asked the Magic 8 Ball:
"Do my students think I'm an idiot?"
And this was the answer I got:
This is all I have to say:

Icing on the Cake

This morning, as I was readying the assorted "bride goodies" that I needed to bring to the dress fitting, I decided to take a picture of the "shoes" I bought to wear with my dress. I texted it to Cathy, Abbey, and Missy. Michelle had already approved -- and helped me select between two pairs -- and I wanted to see what all the Reid women thought.

They approved, too.

Juli, a very good friend here in Fresno whom I actually met in Bridgeport (hey! kinda like Bob and Michelle!), met me for the dress fitting, and she approved of the dress and the shoes.

So fun when my family and friends are happy for us...I couldn't be more lucky.

Another Wedding Milestone

Wedding dress fitting tomorrow evening.
I really hope it doesn't come out like this.

Seeing starz

I've watched quite a few HBO series.
Never watched a starz series.

Until now.
Actually started watching two in the last few days.
Tonight, began watching this with Bob.
Watched the first episode. Not bad.

Last week, started watching this, which I've been eagerly awaiting.
Loved Diana Gabaldon's books that the series is based on.
And love the show so far (two episodes in).

When a show has this as one of its advertisements,
what's not to love?

Mystery RSVP

So, the majority of our wedding and wedding celebration invitations have gone out (there are a few stragglers, as I apparently haven't learned to count correctly), and some RSVPs are coming in.

Today, we got one from Mike and Nancy Massin.

We don't know a Mike or a Nancy Massin. We don't know any Massins.

When I google-imaged the names, this is one of the pictures that came up:
I'm pretty sure Mike and Nancy aren't going to be there.

Climbing

Why do I love running stairs? I was at work today from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, and after I got out of class tonight, I threw on my running clothes, and ran 10 1-minute intervals up stairs.

I love it.

How weird is that?

On the bike, I loved climbing. I would rather climb than descend. There was something about the challenge, battling with the ascent and with yourself, to keep your head, your heart, your lungs, and your legs in it. All the way. To the top.

I love it.

You spend so little time at the top. But, man, it's so amazing working toward that. And getting there.

And then finding a different climb. Or aiming for more flights of stairs. And doing it again.

Kinda like life, yes?

School Days Haiku

It's back-to-school time.
I even went clothes shopping.
Life is VERY good.

I'm Baaaaack!

In more ways than one, actually.

I'm back on the blogosphere.

And I'm back on campus, officially. Yesterday was the first day all faculty had to return, and students will return when classes begin on Thursday.

Of course, I worked a little over the summer: co-taught a class, covered Dog Days a couple times, did some advising, wrote memos for students, and did some prep and catching up for my classes.

And this last weekend, I helped facilitate a retreat for the JCAST Student Leadership Council -- a group of students in our college (Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology) that works on behalf of the dean's office to organize a variety of events. They also receive leadership training.

I think we got things off to a good start over the weekend, and am looking forward to watching them grow this year.

We'll Drink to That

Look what came in the mail yesterday.
The glasses that Bob and I will use for the toast at our wedding reception.
We know that tradition stipulates champagne flutes...
...but apparently we're not very traditional.
We'd probably never use champagne flutes again.
These? We'll use again and again and again.
But the first time will be for our wedding toast.
As my dad would say,
"Here's lookin' up yer kilt!"

Spicy Summer

Two nights in a row.
I know.
Shocking.
But I actually cooked dinner again.
This time?
A Cooking Light recipe: Chipotle Chicken Taco Salad.
Bob had bbq'd two chickens on Sunday so we could use the leftovers for a few dinner this week, and this was one of the recipes I picked. Easy and delicious. The canned chipotles I used were pretty hot, so it was a bit on the spicy side, but so good. Oh, and I ran out of avocado when I was making last night's dinner, so I also didn't use that, but it was still delicious.
Wanna try it? Recipe is here.

Summer Light

Made this quick and delicious Mango-Avocado-Shrimp Salad for Bob and my dinner tonight. Served it alongside some tortilla chips* and salsa. Perfect for a hot summer evening.

Need to get my arse to bed, so rather than type the recipe, you can find it here. It was in Sunset magazine originally. Enjoy!

*We make our own "healthy version" by simply cutting corn tortillas into triangles, and heating them in a hot skillet (sprayed with some olive oil) until they're the tiniest bit crispy.

Holy-Missed-Opportunities, Batman!

Just hit the "Buy Now" button on the invitations to our "Tying the Knot!" ceremony and reception invites.
Too bad I didn't see any of these before ordering the much-more-subdued ones that are on their way to us...

This one, though, I have to say, is my favorite.

Bad Hair Day?

Man...I really hope my hair doesn't look like this on our wedding day.

That would suck.
